The article specifically stated that “The end of the century will be the hottest in the planet’s history, and it’s still possible to avert climate catastrophe.” Wow! I find it amazing that a current article in one of the most respected magazines is discussing climate change, and yet we don’t seem to be making the necessary changes to mitigate the effects of climate change. Of course, the fact that the article focused on a possible Hillary Clinton presidency is what caught my eye. It was written that: The U.S. could solve climate change. No, really. Why is it that the U.S. is the one responsible for climate change? It’s kind of like blaming the elephant for causing the rainforest to burn. Yes, the elephant is responsible for the rainforest’s burn-ability, but the U.S. is responsible for causing the rainforest to burn, so it’s not like we’re getting out of the problem’s way. According to the article, the U.S. is still responsible for contributing to climate change, even though the U.S. has reduced its greenhouse gases by 18 percent since 1990. Wow! If the U.S. is responsible for climate change, and yet we are already making significant changes to mitigate this problem, why are we still producing 18 percent of the world’s greenhouse gases? If the U.S. had tried to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 18 percent since 1990, we would have ended up with the following: By my calculation, we would have ended up with a reduction in the world’s greenhouse gas emissions of 10 percent, or about 5.6 percent of the world’s total. That would have put us at the following level: So, even if the U.S
